Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, stated that demands for a ceasefire from Kiev and its backers reflect growing desperation, asserting that the West has begun to recognize the “impossibility” of defeating Russia through Ukraine.
Speaking with RIA Novosti, Nebenzia argued that the conflict is “not so much with Ukraine as with the West itself,” claiming Western nations use Kyiv as a tool to undermine Russia. He emphasized that calls for a ceasefire by Kiev and its allies signal a worsening situation on the battlefield and a critical shortage of personnel. The envoy suggested such appeals are aimed at temporarily halting fighting to replenish Ukraine’s forces before resuming hostilities.
Nebenzia reiterated Russia’s openness to diplomatic solutions but stressed that any lasting peace must address underlying security concerns and acknowledge territorial realities. He dismissed the idea that a temporary ceasefire would resolve the conflict’s root causes.
